Shri Hanumantha Rao was flung into hardship at the age of three after his father & hotelier Shri R Shamanna’s demise. His uncles then swindled his illiterate mother. Now with a family to support, he worked as a waiter in his father’s hotel. However, his life’s story is about how true grit and vision decimates adversity.

Sree Vinayaka Education Society
Studying while he toiled, he learnt all too well how important education was. Mr. Rao came up with the idea to start his own school. This was the Sri Vinayaka Education Society at Cubbonpet in 1964. Sadly, he had to give it away due to caste barriers prevalent at the time.

Sri Vani Education Centre
Unyielding and ready for his next venture, he started Sri Vani Education Centre in 1966. The institution shot to fame in no time. Thanks to his elaborate planning and result-oriented working abilities, what started with just 18 students, is today a well-oiled machine that nurtures more than 5500 students.

Atmarama High School
Sri Vani’s success story spread wide & far. The people of Narasipura – Mr.Rao’s native, requested him to start a school as their children had to walk long distances to access education. Despite his financial constraints, Mr. Rao started the Atmarama High School to help children of the region.

Sanskriti Prachar Samiti
A firm believer in the Sanatana Dharma, he also came up with a social organisation named Sanskriti Prachar Samiti, aimed at spreading Hindu customs, rituals and Indian culture, to help a nation reeling from an identity crisis and a massive colonial hangover.

Passing on the Baton
In 1972, Mr. Rao’s sudden demise due to a massive heart attack brought an end to a great era. His wife, Smt. RH Usha, successfully took over the institution’s administration with the help of her five children & brothers. Sri Vani is now hailed as one of Bengaluru’s most prestigious educational institutes.
